SPRINGDALE, Ark. (AP) _ The state has approved plans for a

methadone treatment clinic in Springdale. Metro Springdale

Treatment Center would treat patients addicted to opiates with

methadone, a synthetic opiate taken daily to negate the effects of

heroin, morphine, Oxycontin and other drugs.

Mike Dickerson, who owns the Metro Springdale Med Center,

applied in 2003 to open the methadone clinic, and the Arkansas

Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention Office approved the application

in November. Dickerson said he hopes to open the clinic in three or

four months.
