CHEROKEE VILLAGE, AR - An early-morning shooting at a home in Cherokee Village is being called "accidental."

Shortly after 1 a.m., Cherokee Village officers were dispatched to the home of Stan Haney at 12 Warpath Lane.  According to a police report, 19-year-old Ramona Colwell was struck in the buttocks by a bullet that accidentally discharged from a gun held by Dustin Melbourne.

According to the police narrative, "Melbourne stated that he removed the clip from the .45 auto and went to eject the round from the chamber to unload the gun, and when he did the gun discharged, striking Colwell in the right buttocks."  Colwell was eventually taken by ambulance to the Fulton County Hospital in Salem before being transferred to UAMS in Little Rock.

The investigating officer's narrative states, "After interviewing all parties, the shooting was ruled an accidental shooting and no charges were filed."
