LONOKE, AR - The Lonoke police chief, his wife, two bail bondsmen and the Lonoke mayor have been arrested by the sheriff in an investigation of illegal drug use and mismanagement of the city jail.

Police Chief Jay Campbell and bail bondsmen Bobby Cox and Larry Norwood were taken into custody on various charges, including conspiring to make methamphetamine.

The police chief's wife, Kelly Harrison Campbell, was arrested on charges of residential burglary, providing state inmates drugs and alcohol, and taking two inmates outside the jail to have sex.

Lonoke Mayor Thomas Privett was arrested for allegedly using state prisoners to do chores at his home, including stringing Christmas lights, in violation of a state program that houses state prisoners in local jails.

They each posted bond and were released from jail.

City Council member Dick Bransford says he is shocked.

The central Arkansas city has about 4,000 people.
