Prison Board at Odds with Legislature Over Funds

PINE BLUFF, AR - The state Board of Corrections says legislators should be asked again to approve a transfer of money from personnel salary-and-benefits appropriations.  The board wants to move the money to a fund where it could be used to pay for inmate health care outside the prisons.

A legislative committee last week declined to approve the transfer.  The money was originally appropriated to pay for prison guard jobs that are vacant.  The transfer was proposed as part of an overall shift of $7.5 million in prison funding.
