COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) _ Convicted murderer and former Columbia
police Officer Steven Rios has been moved from a Missouri prison to
a facility in Minnesota.
The Missouri Department of Corrections says Rios was transferred
from the Fulton Reception and Diagnostic Center to an out-of-state
prison, but declined to say when or why he was moved.
The department says if prisoners are moved out of state it's
usually for safety reasons.
A receptionist at the Minnesota Correctional Facility-St. Cloud
confirmed that Rios is now an inmate there.
Rios was sentenced to life in prison in July for first-degree
murder in the death of 23-year-old Jesse Valencia, who was found
dead in 2004. Witnesses testified during Rios' trial that Valencia
threatened to expose a sexual relationship between them.
