Governor's Travels on State Planes Add Up to $485,000 Over Four Years

February 12, 2006 - Posted at 12:40 p.m. CST

LITTLE ROCK (AP) _ As Governor Huckabee gains a higher profile

with consideration of a presidential bid and his duties as chair of

the National Governors Association so, too, does the state

taxpayer's tab for his travels. The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

reports that since 2002 -- the first year detailed estimates were

kept -- the cost of Huckabee's travels on state planes has

increased by about 76-thousand dollars. His state plane travel for

the last four years cost taxpayers about 485-thousand-dollars.

The governor declined to comment on the figures, but issued a

policy years ago that the state ethics commission said was

acceptable. According to the policy, the governor's travel by state

plane can benefit non-official business if the trip also involves

official business.
