JONESBORO, AR - Governor Huckabee remembers state Senator Jerry Bookout's kindness to a newbie from the opposite party when Huckabee began presiding over the Senate as lieutenant governor in 1995 and Bookout was a legislative veteran.  Bookout died yesterday at his home in Jonesboro at the age of 72.

Huckabee recalled the help and advice that Bookout gave him.  The governor said that, as a Republican, he wasn't the most popular person in the chamber of the Senate, dominated by Democrats.  But he said Bookout's character knew no party divisions and Bookout went out of his way to befriend Huckabee and offer advice and councel during his early days as lietuenant governor.

The governor said Bookout lived his faith, and he will be remembered for that.
