State's Top Democrat Resigning as Party Director to Run Berry Campaign

FEBRUARY 23, 2006 - Posted at 5:02 p.m. CST

LITTLE ROCK, AR - The executive director of the Arkansas Democratic Party says he's leaving at the end of the month to work on Congressman Marion Berry's re-election campaign.

Gabe Holmstrom has been with the state Democratic Party since May.  He will work as Berry's campaign manager.

Holmstrom said he believes the party has become more organized and has built a stronger presence online since his hiring.  Holmstrom previously served as Berry's field director and as campaign manager of former State Representative Jan Judy's unsuccessful bid for Congress in 2004.

A spokesman for the party said a nationwide search is being conducted for Holmstrom's replacement.  Democrats hope to have a new director within 30 to 60 days.
