Utility Pole Pierces Moving Vehicle

February 24, 2006 -- Posted at 9:00 P.M.

JONESBORO, AR -- A Jonesboro family has a close call after stricking a city vehicle.

A City Water and Light truck and an SUV were traveling Westbound on Race Street when the driver of the SUV, Jamie Gilmer, changed lanes and struck a utility pole on the trailer of the City Water Light vehicle. The utility pole pierced the SUV causing it to overturn, but surprisingly the passengers only suffered minor injuries.

Gilmer had children with her, a 5 and a 2 year-old. The pole barely missed the driver's face and almost struck the child sitting behind her. Gilmer and her two children were taken to St. Bernards Medical Center for treatment.

Jamie Gilmer, the driver of the SUV was noted for careless, prohibited driving, although there was no citation.

Police say the pole was properly flagged by the City Water and Light Department.
