Conference Speakers Say Homosexuality A Choice

February 26, 2006 - Posted at 1:14 p.m. CST

MANCHESTER, Mo. (AP) _ Some 17-hundred people gathered outside

St. Louis yesterday for a conference that said being gay is

optional.

The so-called ``Love Won Out'' event was sponsored by the

conservative Christian group Focus on the Family.

Speakers told parents of gay people to be kind to their

children's partners. But they stressed homosexuality is a sin and

that it could be avoided.

A number of speakers at the conference said they used to be gay

but now live heterosexual lives.

More than 350 people protested the event, but police reported no

trouble from the picketers.
