More Widening Projects On U.S. 65 To Begin

_ The state Highway and Transportation

Department is preparing to begin two more widening projects on U-S

Highway 65 in southeast Arkansas.

About 50 miles of the 89-mile highway from Pine Bluff to Lake

Village have been widened since the project began in 1994. So far,

the state has spent more than 85

million dollars on the work.

Four segments are being widened now and four more need to be


The next two projects to begin will be in the Gould area. One

project will widen four miles of the road south of Grady to north

of Gould. The other will widen 12 miles from north of Gould south

to Arkansas 159 at Mitchellville.

All told, the widening project is to cost 175
