When should I prune and fertilize my spring flowering shrubs such as azaleas?
Since these plants bloom on the previous year’s wood, they should be pruned after they bloom or you will sacrifice next year’s flower buds. Pruning should be done within 6 weeks after they finish blooming. This is also a good time to fertilize them. We recommend a good slow release fertilizer such as Grower’s Special available at Southlawn Nursery.
