Arkansas Waiting for Word on Medicare Drug Assistance

FEBRUARY 28, 2006 - Posted at 8:01 a.m. CST

LITTLE ROCK, AR - Arkansas is awaiting word on whether the federal government will reimburse the state for any Medicare drug prescriptions Arkansas pays into March.

Yesterday was the deadline set by the federal government to cover reimbursements for Medicare drug assistance to pharmacies through March 17, but the state did not know if it would be paid back for the extended help.

The state has paid nearly $5.5 million to fill prescriptions for more than 22,000 people.  The state has asked for its claims to be covered beyond yesterday's deadline.
