Southeast Missouri Lawmaker Announces Resignation Plans

FEBRUARY 28, 2006 - Posted at 9:09 a.m. CST

JEFFERSON CITY, MO - State Representative Otto Bean announced to colleagues yesterday in Jefferson City that he will not seek re-election to the Missouri House.  The Holcomb Republican cited on-going health concerns and a desire to spend more time with his family, but also indicated that he intended to fill his seat through the end of his term.

"I'm proud of what we've accomplished in Jefferson City over the past four years, and am honored to have had the opportunity to serve," said Bean.  "It has always been a privilege to represent the 163rd district and to work with my colleagues in the Missouri House.  Representating my district has been one of the biggest challenges of my life, but it's also been one of the most rewarding.  I'm grateful for the experience."

Bean was elected to the House in 2002 and represents parts of Butler, Dunklin and Stoddard counties.
