Memphis Topless Dancer Pleads Guilty to Killing Fellow Dancer

MARCH 3, 2006 - Posted at 2:50 p.m. CST

MEMPHIS, TN - A topless club dancer has pleaded guilty in Memphis to the murder of another dancer and been sentenced to life without parole.

The court sentenced Melissa Gale Ferris during a hearing yesterday.  She's expected to receive the same sentence in Florida for the killing of her boyfriend.

In Tennessee, Ferris was accused of cutting the throat of Corrie Duckett on March 18.  Prosecutors say it happened at a mobile home where Ferris and her boyfriend, Jeffery Opp, lived.

Authorities say the couple then headed south because Ferris had always wanted to see Walt Disney World.

When a police officer pulled them over for speeding in Jacksonville, Florida, a stand-off ensued, during which police watched Ferris shoot Opp in the head, killing him.  Ferris said it was a suicide pact.

Ferris gave no reason for the killing of Duckett.  She helped police find the victim's remains in a remote area of Panola County, Mississippi.

Ferris is expected to serve her life sentences in Tennessee.
