South West Missouri Man Sentenced to Life in Prison for Killing Brother

March 5, 2006 - Posted at 12:33 p.m. CST

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) _ A southwest Missouri man is sentenced to

life in prison without parole for killing his brother.

Greg Norman was convicted in January of first-degree murder for

killing his brother Rick Norman, a photographer in Springfield.

Prosecutors say the December 18th, 2001 slaying was the result of a

dispute over the estate of the siblings' deceased father.

In handing down the sentence Friday, Greene County Judge Thomas

Mountjoy agreed with a jury's recommendation.

The judge rejected the defense attorney's request for an

acquittal and a new trial. Cooley said that testimony about weapons

found at Greg Norman's home prejudiced the jury.

The gun used to kill Rick Norman has never been found, but

ammunition at Greg Norman's home matched bullets recovered from his

brother's body.
