Iraqi Mosque Attacked

March 5, 2006 - Posted at 12:56 p.m. CST

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) _ Iraq's Interior Ministry denies its forces

were involved in an attack at a west Baghdad mosque that triggered

a 25-minute gunbattle.

Officials say gunmen stormed the mosque, and three people ended

up dead. Witnesses say U.S. helicopters hovered above the scene.

Police say attackers hit the al-Nour mosque in

Baghdad's Jihad neighborhood and fought with mosque guards.

Several masked gunmen are guarding the mosque today and damage

is visible.

The imam tells reporters that ``a gang using ten cars stormed

the mosque.'' He says the cars are like those used by Iraq's

Interior Ministry and the attackers wore military uniforms.
