JPD Investigating Suspicious Death

MARCH 6, 2006 - Posted at 7:52 a.m. CST, updated at 3:34 p.m. CST

JONESBORO, AR - Officers with the Jonesboro Police Department are looking into a suspicious death that was discovered late Sunday afternoon.

At approximately 4:35 p.m. yesterday, JPD officers were dispatched to the 200 block of South Fisher Street in reference to the body of a white female that was found in the area.  Shortly after their arrival, police located the woman's body behind a vacated residence at 214 South Fisher.  According to Captain B.J. Smith and detective Chad Hoggard, enough physical evidence was present at the scene to cause investigators to suspect foul play.

Police have identified the victim as 35-year-old Melissa C. Wade, "of an unknown Jonesboro address."

The death is being investigated as a "possible homicide" and the body has been sent to the state Crime Lab.

Meanwhile, the JPD has asked that anyone with information about the case, or about Melissa Wade's activities in the past week, call the JPD's Criminal Investigation Division at 935-5553.
