JONESBORO, AR – The Jonesboro Police Department is calling the latest Region 8 homicide a 'suspicious death.'
Officers were called to an abandoned residence in North Jonesboro Sunday afternoon after neighbors discovered the body of a woman.
Many neighbors didn't want to talk with K8 News on camera, but they all shared the same emotions...shocked that a crime like this could happen in their neighborhood.
"It's an ok neighborhood, even though things go on in every neighborhood, but I was shocked they found somebody dead over here. You normally can walk anytime at night, nobody will bother you over here, if you are normal and used to being over here in this area," said Jonesboro resident Niressa Hutson.
The body of 35-year-old Melissa C. Wade was found Sunday afternoon around 4:30 outside of an abandoned home at 214 S. Fisher.
"The officers are investigating this as a suspected homicide. They conducted several interviews, I'm sure they will conduct more interviews. They are following several leads," said Jonesboro Police Department Sgt. Stephen McDaniel.
JPD investigators suspect foul play and have sent Wade's body to the state crime lab in Little Rock. And while Wade's death comes as a shock to the neighborhood...most have their own theories as to what happened.
"It probably was somebody that maybe just drifted in for the night to do a little whatever. And did that and left or it might have been a newcomer to Jonesboro, but I actually don't think it was anybody from here," said Hutson.
