LITTLE ROCK, AR - Legislative administrators say a new rule only restores an old policy that allows committee chairmen to receive a $125 daily allowance plus mileage on days they meet with legislative employees.
The meetings with employees have to be about committee business for the legislator to be able to collect the money.
Some longtime legislators say they did not know the payments were available.
Bureau of Legislative Research director Tony Minicozzi says the rule was affirmed after a legislator asked whether he was eligible for the per-diem after meeting with staff about committee business.
Minicozzi says the bureau should be consistent and offer per diem and mileage to all committee chairmen for meetings held on committee business with legislative workers.
