Diamonds Stand in Center of State's New License Plates

LITTLE ROCK, AR - Governor Huckabee today unveiled a new license plate.  The new plates features a diamond in the center, representing the state's diamond industry.  The change is the first major overhaul of the license plate since 1996.  The plates will be available beginning tomorrow.  Until the old plates run out, though, people wanting the new plate will have to pay a $1.25 extra.

The fee won't apply to drivers who have received notices to return license plates that are 8-years-old or older.

The Arkansas plates aren't made by prisoners, but rather a Canadian company called Waldale Manufacturing.
