Beebe, Hutchinson Focus on Each Other in Gubernatorial Race

LITTLE ROCK (AP) _ Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mike Beebe

says he doesn't expect his campaign strategy to change now that

Bill Halter has dropped out of the primary race to run for

lieutenant governor. Beebe has been outpacing Republican candidate

Asa Hutchinson in fundraising by a two-to-one margin. Beebe says

the obvious benefit with Halter's decision is that it saves Beebe's

campaign a lot of money. With Halter's move to another race, Beebe

and Hutchinson are the only two candidates running for the state

chief executive position. In campaigning, the two have been focused

on each other for the most part for the past several months. They

are targeting each other's proposals ranging from taxes to money

for economic development. Hutchinson says he doesn't expect that to

change. The primary is May 23rd.
