Board to Consider Consolidating Districts at Monday Meeting

LITTLE ROCK (AP) _ State education officials will consider two

separate plans Monday from school districts that have volunteered

to consolidate.

The Elaine School District would be merged with the Marvell

School District and the DeValls Bluff District with the Hazen

School District under proposals scheduled to go before the Arkansas

Education Board.

Both the Elaine and DeValls Bluff districts are subject to

administrative annexation because their enrollments have fallen

below the state-mandated 350 students for the past two years.

Separately, a lawsuit has been filed to stop the annexation of

the Eudora School District by the Lakeside School District. Patrons

of the Eudora district want a federal judge to halt the annexation,

which was ordered February 13th by the state Education Department.
