Federal Government Files Tax Lien Against City of Turrell

TURRELL, AR - The federal government says the city of Turrell owes the Internal Revenue Service $162,000 in back taxes.  The city apparently withheld federal taxes from city employees but never remitted the money.

A federal tax lien has been issued against the city.

Turrell City Clerk Carol Horton says the city had made payment arrangements with the IRS after an audit in mid-2003.  But she says the city fell behind on various bills after the city took over the police department the same year.
