Huckabee: Democratic Control of State Could Lead to Public Corruption

MARCH 15, 2006 - Posted at 8:02 a.m. CST

LITTLE ROCK, AR - Governor Huckabee says electing a Democratic governor could roll back many of the reforms enacted in the past ten years under his administration.  Huckabee spoke at a fundraiser last night for Republican gubernatorial candidate Asa Hutchinson.  Huckabee further said that having a Democrat in the governor's mansion along with Democrats in the majority in the House and Senate could lead to corruption.

Huckabee noted that former state Senator Nick Wilson of Pocahontas led a scheme that bilked the state of millions of dollars when Democrats were in power in Arkansas.

Huckabee says he's not likening Democratic candidate Mike Beebe to Wilson, but Huckabee says he would like to see a balance of power continue in the state.

Beebe says he and Huckabee have worked well together and Beebe says that the governor knows that he worked to combat Wilson.
