Woman and Son Spend Four Decades in Same Apartment

March 19, 2006 - Posted at 1:07 p.m. CST

WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. (AP) _ If anybody keeps track of things like

longest residency in the same apartment, Margaret Walton and her

son Gerald would probably be ranked pretty high, at least in

Arkansas.

The Waltons have lived in the same apartment at West Memphis for

the last 40 years. When the family -- which then included Margaret

Walton's husband and Gerald's father -- moved in on March 14th,

1966, the rent was 59 dollars a month.

The owners of the apartment complex celebrated the anniversary

by giving the 78-year-old Walton and her son gifts, flowers and

balloons. Both Walton and her son say they love where they live,

and have no plans to move.

In Margaret Walton's words, quote, ``I guess I'll die here,''

unquote.
