Blytheville Police Searching for Man Suspected in Girlfriend's Shooting Death

MARCH 20, 2006 - Posted at 11:36 a.m. CST

BLYTHEVILLE, AR - Police in Blytheville are searching for a local man suspected in the weekend shooting death of his girlfriend.

At 11 p.m. Saturday, police were dispatched to a residence at 1523 Willow Street, where a woman had reportedly been shot.  Upon arrival, officers found Kenya Thigpen suffering from multiple gunshots to the chest and arms.  Thigpen told officers that she had been shot by her boyfriend, whom she idenfied as 40-year-old Leon Jackson of Blytheville.

Thigpen was taken by ambulance to the Great River Medical Center in Blytheville, where she died a short time later.

A warrant was soon issued for Jackson, and police are now attempting to find him.  Lieutenant Dave Flora of the BPD says Jackson was last seen driving a 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix, with Arkansas license tags LPN-928.  Flora says Jackson may be in the Memphis area, where he has connections.

Flora says the shooting marks Blytheville's first homicide of the year.
