Drowning Victim's Body Recovered This Afternoon in Kennett Lake

KENNETT, MO - The Missouri Water Patrol and other southeast Missouri authorities this afternoon successfully recovered the body of a Hayti man who apparently drowned yesterday after jumping out of his fishing boat in order to save a dog.

Dave Nelson of the MWP says authorities found the body of 21-year-old Brian Lacy of Hayti at 1:32 p.m. in the Jerry Paul Coombs Lake, just outside of Kennett.

Lacy and his roommate were fishing in a boat on the lake yesterday when their dog jumped from the boat and into the water.  His roommate, 20-year-old Ryan Bauschlieher, said Lacy then jumped into the frigid, choppy waters in order to rescue the dog.  He soon went under and Bauschlieher never saw his friend again.

Several law enforcement agencies and emergency responders began searching for Lacy, and the search continued until nearly 2:30 a.m. today, and searchers were back on the lake by 7 o'clock this morning.
