LITTLE ROCK, AR - The proposed Paragould Bypass project on U.S. 49 has been earmarked for a share of $5 million in federal grants from the U.S. Transportation Department.

The rest of the money is to be used to widen U.S. 65 in Desha and Lincoln counties, Transportation Secretary Norman Mineta said today.

The grants are part of a federal program that supports transportation infrastructure and economic development in the Delta region.  "Investing in new road projects will help countless travelers and residents alike better connect to the heart, spirit and sould of the Delta region," said Mineta.  "The Paragould Bypass and improvements to U.S. 65 will help fuel the region's economy and provide more choices and convenience to drivers."
