JONESBORO, AR -- The Mall at Turtle Creek is scheduled to open next week, but for those who just can't wait to start spending money... listen up. One of the main anchor stores, Dillard's, is just days away from the sound of shoppers and cash registers ringing.
Dillard's first opened in Jonesboro in October of 1967 at Indian Mall. Now nearly 40 years later, a simple sign that says 'you are here' doesn't even begin to describe it.
"It's been a long time coming, we appreciate the opportunity to join this mall and have the opportunity to give a better Dillard's," said Manager Karen Gray.
Occupying 155-thousand square feet over two levels, the New Mall at Turtle Creek Dillard's offers just about everything.
Sheryl Porter of Dillard's Corporate said "You'll not only see new brands, but you'll see new innovations as well. As far at the brands go in our apparel areas we have Dorthee Bis, Maxine. We have new cosmetics line Chanel and also Prescriptives. You're going to see a bigger variety in our shoe department and also we have a home store. We didn't have one before, so we have a full line which also includes a bridal registry, anything you need for your kitchen, your home, your bath."
And some new twists on old favorites. A big and tall section for men...and even an easy way to make decisions when it comes to lingerie, just in case you need some help. But it's the sheer size of the store that's probably the most impressive.
"Everything is basically doubling, staff is almost doubling, square footage, just about everything," said Gray.
"It wasn't like we were starting from scratch, we had people who knew products, who knew how to merchandise," said Porter.
But the part most women may be excited about…the shoe department!
"The shape of it is customer friendly and the new brands that we are carrying, and a lot of shoes...a lot of shoes!" laughed Gray.
The first opportunity to shop at Dillard's may be closer then you think. The soft opening is Saturday, March 25, with doors opening at 11:00.
Dillard's will be hosting a charity open house on Tuesday, March 28. Tickets can be purchased at Indian mall for $5 and the night of the event. Money raised will go to benefit local schools.
