New Blues Owner Ready to Turn Team Around

March 25, 2006 - Posted at 1:07 p.m. CST

ST. LOUIS (AP) _ The soon-to-be new owner of the St. Louis Blues

has his sights set on the Stanley Cup.

The Blues' owners Bill and Nancy Laurie will sell the team and

the Savvis Center to Dave Checketts and his Sports Capital Partners

and Towerbrook Capital Partners.

Speaking at a news conference today, Checketts says the team

will definitely stay in St. Louis and promised fans an NHL

Championship was the ultimate goal.

A lease locks the Blues into St. Louis through the 2010-2011

season.

Checketts owns the Major League Soccer team Real Salt

Lake and has been the president of two NBA teams.

The Blues are the second-worst team in the league and won't go

to the playoffs for the first time in a quarter-century this year.
