The Mall at Turtle Creek Through the Eyes of a Shopper

JONESBORO, AR -- With the opening of The Mall at Turtle Creek comes the most important thing any shopping facility can have:  the shoppers.

K8 News tagged along with one of those shoppers on Wednesday as she experienced the mall for the first time.

Helen Touhey, her daughter Sequoyah, and friend Xylina were the first people in line at the Mall at Turtle Creek at 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning.

“I thought it would be a big crowd, because everybody’s been talking about this for so many months now,” said Helen Touhey.

When the doors opened for the first time, the first 500 shoppers got their free gift bags and hit the stores.

“We got up early, and were determined to get here and be one of the first people here at the door.  This was our day… ladies day out,” said Touhey, “It was really nice.  I enjoyed all the stores.  People are all so nice everywhere you go.”

While seeing all the stores in the mall is exciting, there's one thing that surprised her about the new mall.

“It looks smaller on the outside than it is on the inside.  It’s just a large mall.  That was surprising,” said Touhey.

Touhey was especially impressed with the new Dillard’s.

“I really like Dillard’s.  I like the way it’s lit up.  You can actually see inside the store.  The old Dillard’s, the lighting wasn’t good.  I didn’t like going there because you couldn’t see in that store.  This is very nice,” said Touhey.

Touhey says she plans on returning to the mall as often as she can.
