Replacement for Jerry Bookout Appointed to Health Panel

LITTLE ROCK, AR - State Senator Jim Hill has been appointed to a legislative panel seat once held by the late Senator Jerry Bookout.  Senate President Pro Tem Jim Argue appointed Hill (D-Nashville) to the Senate Public Health, Welfare and Labor Committee.  The spot was held by Bookout, who died February 22.  Bookout served 32 years in the Legislature and represented Jonesboro and Craighead County.

Governor Huckabee has set April 11 as the date for a special election to fill Bookout's seat.  The senator's son, Paul Bookout, a Democrat who has served as a state representative, has been nominated by a Democratic caucus to be the party's candidate for the seat.  The Republican Party said it would not run a candidate in the special election out of respect for Jerry Bookout.
