Entergy Explains Reasoning Behind Arkansas Rate Increase

MARCH 30, 2006 - Posted at 8:01 a.m. CST

LITTLE ROCK, AR - Electricity bills are about to drop in Mississippi while rates levied by a sister company in Arkansas will go up.  Entergy Arkansas officials explain the differences by saying that the two states have different filing regulations.

Entergy Mississippi announced that rates should be down for April, May and June because of a drop in natural gas prices.  Two weeks ago, Entergy Arkansas asked state regulators to approve a rate increase of nearly ten percent.

James Thompson, a spokesman for Entergy Arkansas, says the state's have different requirements for filing with state commissions.  Mississippi files quarterly while Arkansas files yearly.  He says that explains why the changes in rates don't happen in sync.
