SPRINGDALE, Ark. (AP) _ A man who police say let his
six-year-old grandson handle a pistol sustained a wound to the
chest when the weapon discharged.
Forty-nine-year-old Steve Patton of Springdale was shot by the
.22 caliber weapon at about 5 p.m. Sunday at Patton's camper at a
recreational vehicle park.
Springdale police Lieutenant Ron Hritz says Patton told
officials he thought the gun wasn't loaded.
Patton was taken to Northwest Medical Center of Washington
County, where he underwent surgery Saturday night. He was in an
intensive unit today in fair condition.
