TEHRAN, Iran (AP) _ Iran says it has successfully fired a

high-speed underwater missile that can destroy warships and

A top Iranian Navy official says the weapon has a speed of about

222 miles-an-hour underwater. And Iran says that makes it the

fastest in the world.

But the weapon apparently has the same speed as a 1995

Russian-made device, which is believed to be the world's fastest.

It's not known yet whether the Iranian missile was based on the

Russian version.

The Iranian official told Iran's state-run television that ``no

warship can escape from this missile.''
