JPD to Crack Down on Downtown Parking Violators

APRIL 6, 2006 - Posted at 11:09 a.m. CST

JONESBORO, AR - Beginning immediately, the Jonesboro Police Department will increase its efforts to enforce parking regulations in the downtown Jonesboro area.  Specifically, officers will seek out persons who violate laws on time limits, fire lanes, blocking alleys and entrances, and handicap parking.

According to Sergeant Steve McDaniel, the department has recently received several complaints of parking violations in the area, and is acting on those complaints "with amplified enforcement."  Congestion during certain hours and on-going street repairs and construction work are magnifying the problem, and increasing the likelihood of both pedestrian and vehicle accidents.

The JPD is currently working to reinstate a parking enforcement person to handle the compaints, as well as work daily to ensure that regulations are followed.

K8 News will have more on this development tonight on Nightbeat.
