Security Cabinet Recommends Cutting Ties with Abbas

JERUSALEM (AP) _ Israel's security Cabinet wants to cut all ties

with the Hamas-led Palestinian Authority, including moderate

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

A government spokesman says the security Cabinet -- a small

group of top officials -- is recommending that the Palestinian

Authority be declared a ``hostile entity.''

The Islamic militant group has said it's committed to the

destruction of Israel.

The government spokesman says Israel is willing to maintain

contact with Abbas, but will not hold peace talks with him unless

Hamas recognizes Israel, accepts past peace agreements and

renounces violence.

The spokesman says the full Cabinet is expected to approve the

recommendations at its weekly meeting next Sunday, making the

measures official Israeli policy.
