Gathering at State Capitol to Show Support for Immigration Changes

LITTLE ROCK, AR - The debate in Washington over immigration, and whether to grant an amnesty for illegal aliens already in the country, will be echoed in Little Rock today.  A group called the Arkansas Coalition for Comprehensive Immigration Reform plans a rally on the steps of the state Capitol, seeking what that group calls a fair immigration system.

Demonstrations in favor of loosening immigration restrictions have already taken place at Fort Smith and Springdale.  In central Arkansas, Spanish-language radio announcers are heavily promoting today's rally.

Critics have said that any amnesty program would reward lawbreakers.  They have also raised concerns that unskilled immigrants depress wages and require more state spending on services like education and hospitals.
