LITTLE ROCK, AR - Governor Mike Huckabee signed legislation today that would give the state's 251 school districts an additional $132.5 million in funding over the next two years.
Huckabee signed 22 education bills that were passed during a special legislative session last week to answer the Lake View school funding case.
Huckabee said he hopes the funding would satisfy the state Supreme Court which last year ruled that Arkansas had failed to adequately fund education for its students.
Huckabee said in a news conference at the governor's mansion: "Obviously we hope this is it. There's no reason this should not be fully and completely settled."
Among other legislation that Huckabee signed into law today were measures to make the Arkansas Teacher of the Year an adviser to the state board of education and additional funding for an on-line training program for teachers.
