APRIL 12, 2006 - Posted at 7:57 a.m. CST

WEST MEMPHIS, AR - West Memphis investigators are trying to determine the identity of a woman whose body was found near an interstate highway overpass.  Police said three fishermen reported finding a body in a small pond beside the Rock Island-Engineers overpass along Interstate-55.

Investigators Thomas Martin said the victim appeared to be a 40-to-50-year-old white female.  Martin said he could release few details but said investigators believed the case to be the county's first homicide case of 2006.

The body was sent to the state Crime Laboratory in Little Rock for an autopsy.
