Crittenden County Authorities Release Identity of Murder Victim

APRIL 12, 2006 - Posted at 3:40 p.m. CST

WEST MEMPHIS, AR - A woman whose body was found last weekend in Crittenden County has been identified.

The Arkansas State Crime Laboratory was able to identify the person as 44-year-old Pamela Sue McWhirter of West Memphis.  McWhirter was found Sunday in a pond near Interstate-55.  Three fishermen discovered the body near what is known as the Rock Island-Engineers overpass.  The overpass is just outside the West Memphis city limits.

Sheriff's investigator Thomas Martin said he couldn't release any other details because of the ongoing investigation.  But the sheriff's office is asking that anyone who saw McWhirter in recent weeks to call the office.
