After 15 Years in Storage, Carousel About to Make Its Debut

April 15, 2006 - Posted at 12:49 p.m. CST

LITTLE ROCK (AP) _ A million-dollar fundraising campaign has

resurrected a one-of-kind carousel that was dismantled and placed

into storage 15 years ago. The 1920s over-the-jumps carousel that

once spun at Little Rock's War Memorial Park came down in 1991.

Nicknamed the Arkansas Carousel, it is the only remaining carousel

of its kind. Only four were made by the Spillman Engineering

Corporation.

But renovation is nearing completing, and the 40 ponies and four

chariots will soon be placed at their new home outside the Little

Rock Zoo's renovated entrance. The carousel will be open to the

public for rides, possibly as early as this fall.
