Mammoth Spring Man Charged with Murder in Toddler Death

April 15, 2006 - Posted at 1:05 p.m. CST

ASH FLAT, Ark. (AP) _ A Mammoth Spring man has been charged with

capital murder for the death of his girlfriend's 18-month-old

daughter.

Thirty-year-old Shane Buckshot Haggins was charged yesterday in

the beating death of Lauren Rutledge, who authorities say was

killed by severe blunt force trauma that fractured parts of her

skull.

The child was found unresponsive by her mother, Casey Rutledge,

on April 7.

Haggins has also been convicted of beating an 18-month-old boy

in 2000. He served less than one year for the crime.

Casey Rutledge could be charged in the death if she knew of

Haggins' history of violence against a child.
