Tax-Filing Deadline Extended This Year

April 15, 2006 - Posted at 1:21 p.m. CST

WASHINGTON (AP) _ Today is April 15th, and since it falls on a

weekend, you get a couple more days to file taxes if you haven't

done so.

The deadline is Monday, except for taxpayers who live in Maine,

Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Vermont or

Washington D-C. They have until Tuesday, the 18th, because Monday

is Patriots Day.

And there's another break for residents who lived in any one of

the counties or parishes severely damaged by Hurricane Katrina.

They have until August 28th.

Taxpayers needing an extension should file an I-R-S Form 48-68.
