FBI Looking Into License-Office Practices

April 16, 2006 - Posted at 11:44 a.m. CST

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) _ ``The Kansas City Star'' reports today

that the F-B-I is investigating Missouri's license fee offices --

and whether any were improperly awarded to Governor Blunt's

political supporters.

Jessica Robinson, a spokeswoman for Blunt, says she knows of NO

investigation into the practice of awarding fee offices, where

people renew driver's licenses and get license plates.

The Star, citing two sources it says are familiar with the

investigation, says the U-S Attorney's office in the Eastern

District of Arkansas is handling the investigation.

Bud Cummins, the U-S attorney for that district, says he cannot

confirm -- or deny -- any investigation.

Contracts to run license fee offices are generally viewed as

plums handed out by new governors to reward their political allies.
