Batesville Woman Sets Out on Journey to Walk Across America

APRIL 18, 2006 - Posted at 2:27 p.m. CST

NEW YORK, AR - A Batesville woman left New York City on foot this morning, joining with eleven other walkers in covering over 3,000 miles in 14 weeks for Sportline Steps Across America, a program dedicated to spreading the word about the benefits of a walking regime as part of a fit, active lifestyle.

A latecomer to walking and running, Stewart's inspiration came from a source close to home.  Her motivation began while attending numerous races where she watched her athletic daughter cross finish line after finish line.  She soon turned into a walker herself.  When not walking, Stewart works as a school counselor.

After leaving The Big Apple at 11 o'clock this morning, Stewart and her fellow walkers are expected to end their cross-country journey in Los Angeles on July 17.
