Mumps Scare at UCA Turns Out to be False Alarm

CONWAY, AR - A test shows that a student at the University of Central Arkansas does not have mumps.

The university's Student Health Services confirmed negative results from the Arkansas Department of Health and Human Services.

As the number of mumps cases grow in the midwest, Arkansas health officials say they are closely monitoring the situation in the state.

In recent days the Arkansas Department of Health and Human Services has warned that an infected passenger stopping at the Northwest Regional Airport may have exposed others to the mumps virus.

State health officials said in a news release Friday that Arkansas has no reported cases of mumps this year.
