Legislators Return to Little Rock Today in Pursuit of Veto Override

APRIL 21, 2006 - Posted at 8:03 a.m. CST

LITTLE ROCK, AR - The Legislature is to convene today to formally close the special session on education.

Backers of a bill that was vetoed by Governor Huckabee say they will try to override the veto during today's meeting.

Huckabee said he supported the idea behind a program to train science teachers but feared that funding the half-million dollar program would take money away from scholarships.

The Legislature convenes at 1 p.m.

Members are to decide whether to formally adjourn the special session that was called earlier this month to address the state's school funding problems.
