Springfield Officials Offers to Repay Tourists for Fuel Costs

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) _ Springfield tourism officials know high

fuel prices may keep some people closer to home this summer.

So they're offering to kick in their share of the gas.

Visitors who travel less than 300 miles, stay for two nights in

one of 34 Springfield hotels and buy tickets for the Wonders of

Wildlife Museum and Aquarium can receive a 40-dollar gift card to

cover gas.

The Springfield Visitors and Convention Bureau began the ``We'll

Buy Your Gas'' promotion a month ago and says it's received a lot

of interest in it.

The campaign mirrors a similar promotion in Branson, which

started reimbursing visitors for gas five years ago.
